GMC Repair: 1997 Jimmy wont start, gmc jimmy, left hand side

1997 GMC Jimmy - When I try to start it, the lights flicker, and I can hear clicking in the enclosed area in the engine on the left hand side.  If I hold the key the truck eventually just dies. It wont start at all.  It's been jumped and it ran for about 5 days before dying again.  The lights work in the dash when it's trying to start, so I'm assuming it's not the alternator, the battery is fine.  I'm thinking it's the ignition.  Can you help me figure out what is wrong so I can attempt to get it fixed?
