GMC Repair: Tranny shows in 2nd when in park, 2003 yukon xl, yukon xl

Question
When I try to start my 2003 Yukon XL, the instant I turn the key on the indicator for the position of the transmission goes from park to 2 and the vehicle will not start. All other electrical seems to work. I spoke with a mech. at the local GMC dealer and he suggested I turn the key just one click and then put the vehicle in neutral, then turn the key and it should start. It does not.  Any suggestions on how to get it started to get it down to the dealer?

Answer
On the side of the transmission there is a large adjustable switch that the shift linkage attaches to. there a 2 small 10mm bolts that you can loosen to make adjustments to this switch.

Using a helper, have him apply the parking brake and you climb under the vehicle and locate this switch and as he is trying to start the vehicle in NEUTRAL and PARK, You can loosen the 2 bolts and turn the switch until the engine starts.

Just make SURE that your helper has the emergency brake ON and his foot ON the brake pedal so when it does start he does not accidently put it in gear and run over you.

I can e-mail you some pictures and directions of how to do it if the above does not work.
