GMC Repair: I own a 2001 GMC Jimmy. I..., gmc jimmy, added components

Question
I own a 2001 GMC Jimmy. I have what sounds like the old rf
whine on my radio wether its turned on or off. If I turn on
my rear defroster the whine goes away for a while. This
whine at times is not there. Where do I start ? Also have a
knocking sound in right front Have had it checked out by
local mechanic nothing in suspension
Thanks
Ted

Answer
If this is NOT the original manufacturers radio that came with the vehicle when it was new, I would suspect a problem within the radio. Otherwise I would suspect that the CAPACITOR within the aletrnator of which is supposed to prevent this whine from the radio is not operating correctly or that the alternator is NOT the original alternator either.

You can purchase KITS that you install in the battery feed wire going to the radio that will prevent this whine. It is also possible that there is a fault within the radio also.

IF you have added ANY electrical components or added and or changed any electrical components you may have problems with these replaced, added components.

This is NOT going to be a simple fix problem as it will require extensive testing of components to determine exactly WHAT is causing the problem.
