GMC Repair: 1990 GMC C1500 with 350 TBI, chiltons manual, 2 nuts

Question
I am in the process of replacing my heater core that conveniently blew this weekend. My Chiltons manual has been a great help so far but it does not tell me how many bolts there are to remove from the engine compartment or where they are. I have removed four so far. And the other stumper is how many hold the case together under the dash or where they are.  I have not removed any of them. I have completed all the other steps so far, I am just stumped with the bolts questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Now you know why I do NOT have a useless Chilton's or Hayes manual in my 700 book factory service manual collection over the last 25 + years. They are, Personal opinion, useless.

within the engine compartment locate the big black plastic housing that houses your A/C's evaporator. Reach way down under this housing and feel for about 3 or 4 bolts or possibly NUTS. If you remove one and it is a NUT you will have to remove the evaporator housing in order to access the SECOND nut that is holding your heater box within the vehicle.

Here is the sequence of the factory installation.

1. install the heater core in the heater box.

2. Mount the heater box to the firewall and install 3 or 4 1 1/2 bolts thru the heater box, thru the firewall and install the nuts from the ENGINE compartment side to hold the heater box onto the firewall.

3. Later they come and install the evaporator into the big plastic evaporator case housing and install the housing OVER the protruding bolts that were installed when the haeter box was installed and then put on a SECOND NUT to hold the evap housing to the firewall.

Therefore you have 3 or 4 bolts with 2 nuts on it.
