GMC Repair: Blazer starting, neutral safety switch, reputable facility

Question
Hello,

My name is Peter and I am experiencing a problem that I have had one time before. I have a 2000 Jimmy, and I believe that it has a safety mechanism that will not allow the car to start when it is not in Neutral or Park. For some reason the car does not start when it is in fact in park. Is there an override option or something that I can do to make the truck realize that it is in Park. Last time this happened, I was able to start it in Neutral, but not this time. Truck was perfectly normal the night before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Most likely there is a fault within the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY switch usually located under the dash mounted on the top of the steering column just behind the electrical ignition switch component.

However, IF your vehicle has the ANTI-THEFT system this can get very complex as to testing various components in order to find the faulty component(s).

Does the vehicle have the ANTI-THEFT system ?.

If it DOES, I cannot tell you how to by-pass the system because:

1. I have no way of knowing IF you are the owner of the
  vehicle.

You would need to have a reputable facility who will check to make sure that you are the owner BEFORE doing any work on the system.

If I am not mistaken up under the dash as I said above you will find a small switch that has 2 wires attached to it. If this switch is faulty the vehicle has no way of knowing what gear you are in, Therefore, It will not start.

I need pictures of the underside of the dash and of the steering column area also under the dash.
