I have a 88 Ponitac Firebird. Has recently been having intermittent power loss-like running out of gas when climbing hill-cutting out. Also when off and try restarting it turns over but won't fire, again, like it's out of gas (It's not) battery and alternator are new, new fuel filter and water pump, does it sound like the relay to the fuel pump?HELP!
Answer -
FIRST you have to determine if your problem if FUEL or IGNITION.

The most common faults are:

1. Crank shaft sensor failure.
2. Ignition module.
3. Fuel pump failure.

Okay, would an ignition module failure cause it to cut out when started?
I ask this because about a year ago my ignition was sticking and the car would not shut off, so this guy put a switch in there that would shut the car off if needed, could that be connected? Thanks for your help!

Answer
WHY people take SHORT CUTS, Especially with all the new electronic components that are being installed, I will NEVER understand. This type of short cutting can be DISASTEROUS to the electronics of the vehicle.

YES, The ignition module had 2 sides to the module, Being:

The START side and the RUN side.

Get that switch OUT OF THERE and fix it RIGHT.

It ALWAYS amazes me, That everything that is done to a vehicle is done by SOME GUY. I have YET to have the owner of the vehicle come out and say I CHANGED this or that, It's always some other guy.
