GMC Repair: over heating transmission, gmc sierra, allison transmission

Question
I have a 1992 GMC Sierra pickup the transmission over heats when towing camper trailer took it in had it checked out and they said that flow through the rad cooler was restricted because it was plugged up so had new rad installed tried it out again and still have problem so they suggest a rebuilt transmission had that done and tried it out again and still have the problem now they say that a recall was made on this problem and it suggest that the breather on the top of the transmission be moved and a hose be added in to lenghten the breather space from on top of the transmission do you think this will help with the problem or should I look for another vehicle also installed the largest external trans cooler I could buy to try and help with this problem

Answer
If you have the ALLISON transmission in this vehicle, Yes, They have had problems with it.

Sounds like nobody can give you an accurate diagnosis except for GUESSING.

I DOUBT if a larger BREATHER will help. It even sounds stupid that they would even suggest such a thing, But I guess they were out of GUESSES.

I do not like to make GUESSES and I won't on this one either.

Without personally seeing and or doing some basic pressure and temperature tests on the trans, I really don't have an answer for you.

I wish I did. Unless you are exceeding the maximum towing rate that the vehicle is designed to tow, You should have NO problems if you have the heavy duty cooling system and the extra cooling fan installed.
