GMC Repair: Brake Lines, rust buster, rear axel

Question
Hello!
I am replacing a brake line connecting the rear axel junction block to the wheel cylider of a '91 Explorer. The fittings look pretty rusty. Do you have any suggestions as to the best approach to removing rusty fittings? I have a set of 'line' wrenches. (I know you are a GM guy, but my question is somewhat generic.)
Thanks!

Answer
Rusty brake line fitting are NOT that difficult to get loose if you have PATIENCE.

1. Spray the fitting with some sort of RUST BUSTER of similar product and let it soak for an hour and respray it several times during your wait.

2. During your wait, Using a small hammer (brass, I prefer), lightly tap all around the fitting so as to help loosen the rust particles to allow the chemical spray to absorb more into the fitting.

3. IF a line wrench fits SNUGLY on the fitting you can use one. If NOT. Use a small pair of vice grips and tighten the grips just enough to get a secure grip on the fitting. To TIGHT and you will oblong the fitting and have a harder time getting it loose.

4. Using a loosen and tighten movement with the wrench or vise grips keep tapping the fitting with your brass hammer and it may take 0 or so minutes and you will start to gain movement of the fitting and it will gradually get easier and will unthread with no problems.

PATIENCE is the KEY.
