Question -
The transmission does not downshift when the gas pedal is depressed.
Answer -
Did this occur suddenly or has it been getting continously worse over time ?.

Is the transmission fluid still BRIGHT RED and NOT have a burnt smell to it ?.

Has the SERVICE ENGINE light(s) ever illuminated ?.

Please elaborate on downshift, At what speed are you trying to downshift and into what gear ?.

Has there been ANY work performed on the vehicle of anykind what-so-ever ?

autohelp

1. It occurned while my son was driving last night.

2. The fluid is not bright red.  It is somewhat dark but do not notice any burnt smell.

3. The service engine light has not come on.  (Did a few years ago with a crank sensor problem, but not since.)

4.  I took a short drive and it does not seem to downshift at any speed.  I  have been looking at it and found a deteriorated hose going to the canister inside the driver's side fender.  I assume this is a vacumn line and this could create a problem.

5. The only recent work was replacement of the brake calipers and flexible hoses this last week.

Answer -
I do not think that it is vacuum related.

I wouldd suggest a transmission repair facility so it can be driven in order to get an exact diagnosis.

I did replace the vacumn lines, but it did not help.  I took it for a longer drive. I manually shifted the gears. It seems to have no shifting between 1st and 2nd. Ok from 2nd to Drive, and no shift between Drive and overdrive.

I assume your last recommendation is still in effect.

Thanks,

Answer
Unless you live in New Mexico about 70 miles west of Albuquerque so that I can drive it personally.

I would NOT be surprised if they tell you that a transmission overhaul is warranted and it MAY be, But it may NOT be, YET.

Expect to pay around $1800.00 to $2000.00 for an overhaul.

We do them for $1300.00 to $1500.00.
