GMC Repair: instrument cluster, gmc 1500, autohelp

Question
1990 gmc 1500 series p/u my instrument cluster goes crazy volt meter does not read right lights dim gauges jump back and forth with blinkers air turns on by itself and sometimes the truck stops running when the meter drops to 0. I have been told to buy a used cluster but I removed it and checked the plug with a light and found the first opening bottom left to light up dimly and no signal by test light please help thanks.

Answer
FIRST thig you need to know is NEVER EVER use a TEST LIGHT on these low voltage circuits of which run  on 5 volts or LESS, And a test light can destroy the electrical low voltage components as well as the vehicles computer due to the amount of amperage draw required by the test light bulb.

Personally, I would get a DEFINATE diagnosis performed and if it is within the cluster a rebuilt cluster can run about $600.00 exchange.
