GMC Repair: Hard Starting, electric fuel pump, bg 44k

Question
1996 C1500 Silverado 5.7 vortac is hard starting and won't start without using starting fluid sprayed in the air cleaner. Once it starts it is good for the day but if it sets a day or two it won't start. I changed gas brands, new fuel filter, new plugs, removed and inspected rotor and cap, put injector cleaner in tank (BG 44K)and it still starts hard. NO codes have been set.All sensors seem normal and working,I have an Auto Xray scan tool. The fuel pump seems to be good, no problem running after you get it started. the milage is 63000, I am the origional owner.
Any help will be greatley appreciated.
Thanks John

Answer
Unless your planning on putting a NEW engine in this vehicle, Go ahead and use STARTING FLUID.

NEVER EVER use this on Today's vehicles due to their extensive electronic components.

OK, Here is a simple 2 person test for you to do:

1. Remove the gas cap.

2. Stand with your ear at the gas cap location.

3. Have someone turn the ignition key to the "ON" position ONLY. Do NOT try and start the engine.

4. While you are listening at the gas cap opening have your helper turn the key to the ON position ONLY and you should hear the ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP in the gas tank run for 2 (TWO) seconds and stop.

5. Does it ?.

The MOST LIKELY suspect is the ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP in the gas tank .

You stated: The fuel pump seems to be good,

HOW did you determine this ?.
