GMC Repair: 1994 GMC Jimmy, gmc jimmy, color strips

Hello,

Thank you for being around to throw questions at. I own a 1994 GMC Jimmy 4dw 2wheel drive suv, The suv has been sitting for several months and the other day we got a new battery for it and started it up, For some reason my dash lights( gauges) arent working, But the check engine light is on ( this is Normal as we disconnected the egr valve) and on the right bottom side of the panel is 2 color strips one orange and the other yellow ( they look like this || ) everything else is black.

I have checked the fuses and dont see a problem, Could u tell me if there is any other options besides a new cluster to try .

What was the LAST repair on the vehicle ?. ANY repair of any nature ?. In most cases problems that arise days, weeks or even months later can usually be traced back to the previous repair.


WHY has it been sitting for a few MONTHS ?.

The most logical problem is most likely possible corrosion at the dash cluster connections due to moisture from setting so long. I would pull the cluster and examine the electrical contacts first.

Unfortunately I do not posess in my extensive library of Service Manuals one for a 1994 GMC Jimmy 4dw 2wheel drive suv.

Start at the cluster contacts and let me know. Also let me know WHAT ELSE does NOT work on the vehicle.

I do not want any Chilton or Hayes manuals as I personally do not like them as the information contained in them is very mis-leading in my opinion.
