GMC Repair: Service Engine Soon light, msd coils, intermittent faults

Question
I have a 98' Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 ltr. V6 GT. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on one day, then went off. After 98,000 miles, I thought it was time to replaced the spark plugs & plug wires. After replacing with OEM parts the light will still come on as I quickly excellerated onto the freeway. The light will stay on until the next day when I speed up to get on the freeway again, then it goes out. I had the trouble code downloaded and it had only one code: "misfire cylinder #1." I have had no problems with power or excelleration. On the last long freway trip the car got 26 mpg. Now the car has 101,000 miles on it and still drives great. Just the service light comes back on now and then. What do you thime is wrong? Would replacing the spark plug coils with new MSD coils solve the problem? Thanks, -Kent

Answer
NO. Never alter the manufacturers designs. You got 100,000 miles out of the parts that came with the car, Why would you want to put after market parts on it.

Intermittent faults are very hard to find, But a qualified experienced tech with the right skills can diagnose and fix your problem.

Trying to give you a cause is just impossible as it could be anyone of numerous items on the vehicle.
