Yesterday, my husband replaced the distributor cap, plugs and wires in our '89 GMC Sierra truck 4X4 and today he replaced the fuel filter.  When we crank the truck up and let it idle it just sounds like it drags down and then it just cuts off.  Please help!  Thanks.

Did you have this problem BEFORE he replaced these parts. Or did he replace all these parts trying to fix this problem ?.

He was having these problems before he replaced the parts.  It actually got a little better but it still dies when on idle.  Please help!

Answer
I am in no way trying to be rude and or disrespectful, But it is obvious since he replaced all these parts and the initial problem still exists, That GUESSING and replacing all these parts was not very helpful.

There are so many possibilities that a diagnosis without actually having access to the vehicle is impossible.

You may have an ignition problem and or a fuel problem and there are so many components that control the fuel and electrical components there is no way for me to list all the possibilities.

I realize that this is NOT the answer your looking for, But my only suggestion is that you have a competent reliable facility make the diagnosis as it will most likely take numerous test procedures using the correct equipment to find the cause.
