i have a 1989 gmc serria that i am having a problem starting i have changed the fuel pump the coil and i have no spark and when trying to start no fuel is being injected can you help with this problem ....thanks
Answer -
What size enine ?. Has there been any work performed on this vehicle of any kind what-so-ever prior to this problem ?. I mean ANY WORK AT ALL.

Pull 2 spark plugs and see if they are soaked with fuel and let me know.

Using a helper, remove the fuel cap and put your ear at the opening and then while listening, Have your helper turn the ignition to the ON position ONLY, DO NOT attempt to start the engine. You should hear the electric fuel pump run for 2 seconds and then shut off, Does it ?.

You may want to check the resistance of the PICKUP COIL within the distributor, If applicable to your specific vehicle. This item is notorious for failure. Replacement requires removal and disassembly of the distributor, If applicable to your vehicle.

the moror size is a 305 and no work at all was performed what happened was it wouldn't start one morning and we live in 40 below zero weather in the winter so we thought it froze up so we brought it into a grage to thaw got it started by pouring some gas in the intake drove it home the next morning it started no problem drove a bit around town maybe half hour then it died  so then we thought it was the fuel pump we changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter then we thought it was the coil as we had no spark and no fuel was being depoisited in the intake when we tried to start it  we also tried putting gas in the intake still it never tried to start

Answer
OK, Although pouring gas into the intake is VERY DANGEROUS, After pouring fuel in the intake are you getting any ignition from the coil or at the spark plugs ?. Don't just check ONE spark plug wire for ignition check 2 or even 3.

Do you have any ignition while trying to start the vehicle ?.

NOTE: The computer system is designed to terminate fuel being emitted into the intake after excessive amounts of trying to start the engine. This is NORMAL so do not be confused if you do not see any fuel being emitted into the intake.

Are any of the spark plugs wet with fuel ?.

Check this item for me. Loacte the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. It will have a 3 or 4 wire electrical connector and a vacuum line attached to it that goes from this sensor to a vacuum port on the engine. Disconnect this vacuum line and make sure that it is NOT plugged up and or has any cracks in the line.

Let me know what you find out.

Any possibilities of pictures ?.
