GMC Repair: 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix Tie Rod End, lower ball joints, inner tie rod

Question
Hello,

I recently failed state inspection. I have a 94 2-door Grand Prix with a 3.4 L engine. The mechanic told me it was due to inner and outer tie rods on both the left and right front sides being bad. When reading my Haynes manual, it simply explains how to replace the outer. Does my car have inner tie rod ends? According to the parts store, they list part numbers for them, but there are none available.
Upon putting the car on a lift, I grabbed the wheels by the top and bottom and did the old push and pull test. they are in fact bad. I was told however by a reliable individual that he did not believe that my car had inner tie rod ends because my car has rack and pinion. Could you please help?

Answer
Kris,

Without actually seeing and having physical contact with your vehicle It is quite impossible to give you an exact part(s) failure.

IF APPLICABLE to you vehicle and without physically seeing the vehicle and due to the numerous amounts of different make model and year of vehicles that I see, You may have one or more of the following worn parts, Again, IF APPLICABLE to your specific vehicle:

Worn idler arm(s).
Worn inner or outer CV joints.
Worn upper or lower ball joints.
Excessive wear within the rack and pinion components.

I would need to see and have physical contact with the vehicle in order to make an accurate diagnosis and advise you of which of the components, IF APPLICABLE to your specific vehicle are at fault.

Let me know.
