GMC Repair: EGR Valve, gmc suburban, penetrating oil

Question
1994 GMC Suburban 350, Service engine soon light on. Code was read and they said I needed to replace the EGR Valve.
I have limited automotive knowledge but this sounds like a simple task. At $250 to replace the valve, I think I can do it. I have the time and the tools. Smart or Not so Smart.

Answer
Hi Rob. If you have confidence in their diagnostics and feel that an EGR valve will fix your problem by all means go for it. Replacing the egr is very simple, just 2 screws, sometimes they will stick so you will need to put some penetrating oil on them and work them back and forth until they come out. The EGR valve is round , about 5 inches in diameter and is located on the passenger side of the engine about half way back next to the throttle body. Get a new valve and you will see where it is easily. Good luck and let me know how you make out. MANFRED
