Acura Repair: Accura Legeng 6cyl gas mileage., air fuel ratio, oxygen sensors

Question
My son recently purchased a 1986 Acura Legend with a 6 cylinder motor.  It was getting around 14 mpg at first.  I took it in to my mechanic and he had the fuel injectors rebuilt.  That improved the mileage noticably.  I was able to get 26mpg on the freeway.  My son says he can only get 19mpg.  Of course he has a lead foot and lives in Seattle.  Does this sound about right for a Legend?  I did also replace one of the oxygen sensors.  I only did one because I didn't know they had two.  The one I replaced was working but looked pretty bad.  Could replacing the second sensor improve the mileage?  Thanks

Answer
a 2001 Rsx gets 28MPG in the city, your legend sounds like it's running pretty Good. as for the sensor.. the PGM (computer) uses various infomaintion from varieous sensores to make the right air/fuel ratio to burn in the cylinder with each stroke. if one senseor were to be "bad" then the wrong infomatioin would be sent to the computer and the wrong air/fuel ratio would be burnt in the cylinder. threrfore if the second sensor is suspected it should be replaced, seeing that it's a lot cheaper than buying a new "cat." because it dies trying to burn excess hydrocarbons(Gas) that wasn't burnt in the cylinder
very good question.

P.S.
tell your son to take it easy it's only a 86... (Just Kidding)
