Alfa Romeo Repair: 82 Spider dies after running for 3 - 4 minutes, alfa romeo spider, alfa romeo

Question
My 1982 Alfa Romeo Spider starts and runs great for about 3 or 4 minutes, then staggers and dies like it has run out of gas.  The car will not restart immediately.  After sitting for an hour or so, the car will start and run great for about 3-4 minutes, then die again.

Answer
It may be a plugged fuel filter but without a fuel pressure tester I would recommend changing the pump and the filter.

However, it could also be fuel injectors that are not atomizing the fuel. Check the spark plugs--if the insulator is black or has black on one side then it is a fuel injector problem. Some outfits can clean and test injectors with ultrasound which is the only effective method of dealing with injectors. One such place is C&C Fuel Injection in Reno Nevada.
