Alfa Romeo Repair: Poor Fuel Consumption for 147, fuel consumption, alfa 147

Question
Greetings!

I'm driving an Alfa 147 1.6TS (manual) and am normally display my fuel consumption on the LCD to monitor my car's FC (fuel consumption). The FC is quite bad. In city (where 75% congested of the time), the FC varies from 8.5km/l to 7.1km/l.

Apart from alternating the driving style, is there any other way that I can modify to have the car more fuel economy? Is it possible to tune the ECU to achieve this?

Thanks!

Answer
It is not easy to adjust that system. However, with those figures you should be spewing black smoke out the tailpipe. The best way to calculate fuel consumption is tankfull to tankfull. Fill the tank, note the kilometers. When refilling the tank note litres and kilometers and divide distance by liquid to get l/km. Do this for several tankfulls and you will have a real indication of fuel consumption. I do this from time to time with my own vehicles to check the state of tune and my driving habits, etc.
