Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa 156 problems..misfiring engine?, mass air sensor, alfa 156

Question
Hi. i have an alfa 156 TS 1600cc. When I start my engine in the morning the engine seems as though it is misfiring. I have replaced the plugs but the problem is the same. it does seem to sort itself when the engine is warmed up. i have been told that it may be the engine temperature sensor or the mass air sensor? the problem seemed to start overnight! The car runs great when it is warm it just chugs along when cold? can you give me any thoughts on what the problem may be?

Answer
If everything really is wonderful when warmed up then the temp sensor could be the fault. This can be confirmed with a DMM (digital multi-meter) set to ohms. The MAF is an expensive item and can usually be corrected by removing the plug and reattaching it several times. By the way, whether cold or hot does the starter work well...If not then this could once more be a ground or battery terminal problem.
