Alfa Romeo Repair: 156 2.0TS Cooling fan always on, cooling fan, loom

I have a 1999 156 2.0TS and the cooling fan is always on. I have changed the switch and the main relay and swapped the smaller relay for a known good one but it is still always on. The fan stays on even if you disconnect the switch completely. Any help is greatly appreciated.

if air conditioning is installed, the fan will run whenever it is activated. it is also activated when in defrost mode. otherwise you need to look for shorted wires or misrouted wires in the loom. corrosion likes to attack wires that run under the battery.
