Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa GT Selespeed problem - help!, alfa gt selespeed, wire terminations

Question
Please help

I have a new 2006 Alfa GT 2.0 Selespeed

From time to time when I use reverse the gearbox goes to neutral and stays there, I can't change gears

I mostly use the car in CITY mode

If I turn off the car and wait 30 seconds it restarts and I can change gears again, but it's an intermitent failure, 13 times in the last 3 months and the dealer has no idea how to fix it, the even changed the selespeed computer to no effect

What can be wrong?

The last time, when it failed, I tried to accelerate, the car goes only to 1500rpm and if I keep the accelerator pushed it will rev to the limit, then if I loose the accelerator and push it again it happens again, it  goes to 1500rmp max and then after +/- six it accelerates to the top

It worries me a lot since having a car that can't move can lead to a severe traffic accident

Dealer in Chile says they phoned Alfa Romeo in Italy but the simply don't care and the car's computer doesn't register any failure

Answer
This can be a poor ground because a ground wire was attached over paint.  But it probably is a poorly made termination on wires in one or more connectors--it takes time and patience to find these.

So the easiest first, check all the ground connections and clean the battery terminals. If that does not solve the problem start checking the wire terminations in the connectors.
