Alfa Romeo Repair: 76 Alfa Spider cranks but will not start when hot, alfa owners, alfa spider

Question
It has SPICA orignal fuel injection and a points/condenser distributor.  I was reading in my Alfa owners bible last night that it could be a problem with the SPICA cold start solenoid.  Any advice is greatly apreciated.

Question -
Stephen,
My Alfa Spider starts fine when cold.  After even a short trip it will crank great but will not start.  Sitting for a few hours cures the problem.  I am thinking of replacing the coil, plugs and plug wires.  What do you think?

Answer -
Is it carburated or fuel injected. Does it have a distributor with contacts and condenser or is it electronic ignition.  This is crucial to pinpoint the problem...

Answer
To see if the cold start unit is at fault, look at the spark plugs.  If the fuel mixture is too rich (faulty cold start solenoid or thermo adjustment) then the white insulator will be blackish.

Before doing any other adjustments to the SPICA system, use a tape measure to check out all linkage adjustments--this actually cures many problems with the SPICA system. If you need the rod length numbers let me know.

Also, if you want to keep the  points system then I recommend adding the MSD 5 to the system--you will see quicker starting and longer contact life.
