Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa 156 will not start after short journey, earth connections, alfa 156

Question
Hi Stephen,
The car is still playing up! Twice now at the traffic lights,I go to pull away and the car completely powers down, the engine turns off and all the electrics go out,not a light on the dashboard, but the electrics will come back to life after about 30 seconds or so and allow me to turn the engine over, but will not fire up untill about an hour passes. This has happened both times when the engine is cold and only travelled a mile!
Hope you can help,Matt

Hi,

I have cleaned the terminals, checked the earth connections and reset the ECU.

I carried this out directly after a short journey when the car would not restart(engine turns over but does not fire)After completing the checks, etc.I started the engine and it fired up first time!

Whether this just happened by chance,I will test it out over the week or so and will let you know the outcome, but looking very positive at the moment! I had a new battery fitted a couple of months ago and had to reset the code on the audio system, would the complete loss of power affect the ECU?

Speak to you soon,cheers,Matt

I do appreciate the feedback.

Answer
I thought I had answered this, sorry.  It is now time to test the ignition switch by bypassing it if you can to be sure that it is the culpret.  I seem to have missed the dash lights going out on the first email--that usually points to the ignition switch or connections going in and out of it.
