Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa Romeo Engine Control System Failure Light, throttle position sensor, alfa romeo 147

Question
Hi,

Car: 2002 Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 twinspark

Recently the warning light for "EOBD  Engine Control  System Faliure" came on. On a subsequently journey, the light was not on, but a couple of days later, it has come on again.
Other symptoms, are the the power delivery when accelerating at low revs can be stuttery.

All of which leaves me somewhat confused i.e. being intermittent - the car manual suggests this is a fault in the supply/ignition system, and to contact a dealer? My normal inclination with symptons of the poor power delivery would be to check for air in system, air filter etc etc, none of which has shown any problems. But reading around, many people seem to clean up leads / plugs etc or suggest sensors could be faulty.

Therefore my question is whether there is anything else to check before heading to dealer, and whether this is a common warning light with this engine.

This is the first problem I have encountered, and the car has been serviced annually.

Many thanks,

Answer
Im in the usa so even if you could give me the code numbers it would be dicey for me to be specific.

However: yes, it does help to look at the spark plugs before heading to the dealer.  From your description it could be the throttle position sensor--but--these things have to be checked with a Digital Multi-Meter before parts are changed.

If you can obtain the specific code numbers then you might query at www.alfaowner.com
