Alfa Romeo Repair: Milano Verde Starter Motor, replacing head gasket, starter solenoid

Question
Dear Stephen,

I want to check the tightness of the contacts on my starter/solenoid.  I also have a rebuild starter/solenoid unit and thought I might just install it.

Will the exhaust manifold slide up and out if I remove all connecting bolts on manifod and exhaust pipe?  If not, how else am I supposed to get gain access to the starter?  Any basic tips for the process?

My hands-on experience includes replacing head gasket, timing belt, and drive shaft multiple times.  My car has 175,000 and I have been enjoying it for 12 years/90,000 miles now.  I have the factory manual and am looking for basic undocumented starter removal tips.

Thanks,
BT

Answer
I apologize for the delay. The first time I wrote you it did not go through.

Give me the symptoms because I do not think your problem is with the starter.

Yes remove the manifold just the way you said in order to remove the starter.
