Alfa Romeo Repair: Starting Problem, alfa romeo 146, alfa romeo 146 1998

Question
Hi stephen, I have a Alfa Romeo 146 1998 model, which until yesterday has given me no serious bother! Whilst driving the vehicle power just gradually disappeared, even though i put foot flat the floor the engine just didnt respond. After pulling over and trying to restart it would not do so.Hence recovery truck home. The CODE light is now on permanently(with key in) and no fuel injector light does not come on,the injectors dont make any sound when turning the key and the engine turns over fine when trying to start just sounds like no fuel is going to engine.Any reply would be most greatful.Ive tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting(same fault appears)ive tried disconnecting and reconnecting most cables checking and cleaning but to no avail. The one thing i have noticed is that a spark plug connecting lead needs replacing as it has gone rotten and broken, could this be the cause? main leads on rail look ok but beneath rail quite shoddy. Hop you can help.

Answer
The first thing to do is give it a tune, including, sparkplugs and wires.

Secondly, the correct proceedure for resetting the ecm (computer) is to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes then touch the positive cable to the negative cable for 10 seconds and the reattach the cables to the battery after cleaning the contact surfaces.

These two things are to be done first to see what happens.  Then go on to plan b is this does not solve the problem.
