American Motors: 1960 rambler super, accelerator pedal, air cleaner

Question
hi kevin i bought this car i am having a small problem with the car not idling it runs good when driving but will not idle.it looks like something from the manifold to the carb is missing.A small tube with threaded ends if thats the problem were could i get that part and what is it called thank you

Answer
What you describe sounds like the choke heat tube. Its job is to provide heated air to the automatic choke coil which allows the choke to open as the engine warms up.
When the vehicle is cold, remove the air cleaner and step on the accelerator pedal once. The choke valve should close almost completely. As the engine warms up, the valve should slowly open. Also, if the engine idles poorly when the engine is at opearating temperature, the idle mixture screw might have to be adjusted.
