QUESTION: it is a 390 4 speed , its the original motor for the car ( 1968 amx )

Answer
Being that the fuel pump on this engine is driven by a large eccentric on the front of the camshaft, you might try rotating the engine 90-180 degrees by hand to reposition it on the low side of the eccentric. Do this with the pump removed from the opening in the engine. Often, you can use a socket and rotate the crankshaft bolt.
