American Motors: 66 amc dpl flashomatic transmission, original q, lip seal

Question
Hi,I have a 1966 AMC DPL with its original Q code 327 4V and column shift flashomatic trans. The car runs perfectly, the trans operates normally but will not go into 3rd gear. Not even an attempt. No slip or anything. It acts like a 2 speed forward(1 and 2)trans.I took the valve body totally apart and its as it should be.All valves are free and move perfectly.I took the governor out and apart...perfect.Shift cable in any position makes no difference.Linkage disconnected on my lift,no difference in any detent.Removed and took apart the regulator.Perfect no problem seen.Pan was clean fluid nice.Ive tried EVERYTHING!A trans shop says a lip seal is torn, I am suspect of that.Today I went in to remove the trans to bring to a shop and the top starter bolt???????????How in the world can you get that hidden bolt out.Ive got plenty of expensive angle wrenches swivel sockets etc.No luck.I made a wrench and can only get one turn.Im about to let  my neighbors hit the car with a sledgehammer for a buck each! Thanks

Answer
I feel your pain.
It has been over 35 years since I pulled a starter on a 327. All I remember is it was a pain in the rear. It takes patience and once you get the bolt broken loose, 1/8 of a turn at a time.
There are no special tools or wrenches that I know of. I even ran this by a buddy who worked on Ramblers back in the 60's. He said the same thing.
Sorry for no good news. Good luck.
