American Motors: 66 Marlin stallls, filler tube, fuel filler

Question
Recently my 66 Marlin(287) has started to stall when I come to a stop.  It usually cranks up again but if I don't keep my foot on the brake as I apply the gas it will stall again.  I notice it has an inline wix 33033 fuel filter as well as the original carter fuel pump.  I did have the fuel filler tube replaced last season due to a leak but it appears to be vented properly. When it isn't stalling it runs and idles really nice. Any thoughts? Thanks

Answer
It does sound like a carburetor problem, the idle circuit to be exact. That is the part of the carburetor that is operating when the engine comes down to idle speed. It could be something as simple as the idle mixture needing adjustment, or something as involved as overhauling it.
Find a good carbuertor mechanic and have it checked out.
