American Motors: borg warner A-12 automatic, borg warner, performance transmission

Question
I found a 1969 Javelin SST with a 390 auto...I look at the trans and it is a borg warner A-12 I look them up and the only application I find is Jaguar... Any info would be greatly appreciated

Answer
AMC used Borg Warner automatics thru 1971, then switched to Torque-Flites.
The B-W isn't known as a performance transmission where as there aren't after market parts to modify it, unlike the Torque Flite.
If it needs work, it's best to find someone that has experience in going into a B-W. Though it is similar in design and operation as some earlier Fords, parts are not interchangeable.
When properly set up, the transmission is very reliable and shifts well. Most upgrade to a Torque-Flite.
