American Motors: 1983 cj7, valve lifters, low oil pressure

my 258 runs fine lots of power but has a clicking noise i thought it was the valve lifters so i replaced all of thim when i did that the noise became louder the guy i bought the engen off of said he put a new cam in it i dont know if he did ou not just his word

A "clicking" noise from your engine could be
1) worn rocker arms
2) worn rocker arm pivots or bridges
3) camshaft improperly installed causing lobes to wear
4) low oil pressure or restrcted oil passages to cylinder head/lifters
5) excessive valve clearance due to wear of valvetrain
