American Motors: AMC 360, Jeep pick-up, horsepower/torque, angle valve job, hedman headers

Question
Repairing an '85 Jeep j-20 pick-up. Had a broken piston & compression ring. Anyway, looking for inexpensive ideas to gain some extra horsepower and torque. Engine is a reman with .060 pistons. Have an Edlebrock 600 carb on performer manifold and Hedman Headers. Any ideas for easy extras while into this repair? CAM, etc.?

Answer
Jeff,
Got some ideas for you.
1) a good 3 angle valve job would help.
2) go to www.compcams.com and fill out the "camshaft recommendation form" They offer free advise on which cam would best suit your aplication.
Your camshaft is very important. You will need to choose between more torque or more horsepower. That's what Comp Cams can help you with when picking out a cam.
You have a good carb/intake setup as well as headers.
3) use quality mufflers such as Flowmasters and at least
2 1/4" pipes.
4) depending on how much money you want to spend, roller rockers are a good investment.
5) electronic ignition is needed. Aftermarket distributors are available, along with an MSD box.
Bottom line is, more power requires more $$$.
The basic things I have mentioned are a great start.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
