American Motors: 1964 AMC Rambler American 330 Electrical Problem, amc rambler, negative cable

Question
Kevin,
My husband did remove the postive cable and touched it to ground and it does spark. We replaced the, coil, voltage regulator, checked the generator, starter and it still does it. Also she'll drive the car for a couple blocks and it'll completely shut down, and can not be started without jumping it. Could the ignition switch be the problem.
Thank you,
Nonie

I'm not sure I understand you. If you remove the positive cable from the battery, and touch the battery cable end to ground, does it spark? Try,instead, removing the negative cable from the battery. It might spark during removal or installation of the negative cable. What components have you replaced? Let me know, please.

Answer
OK, you got me.
All the years I've been around Ramblers, I have never experiened this condition. However, all is not lost. I will do a little investigating and see if I can come up with something. Did you replace the generator? Did anyone polorize the generator? This is necessary to get the current flowing in the right direction after replacement.
I am currently out of town on business; when I return this weekend, I'll do some checking. Do you have an email address where I can contact you?
