American Motors: Motors, slick 50, chev

Question
I own an 82 Escort, and it has a rod knock. My friend said that he had a Escort that ran fine with a rod knock for 5 years, and I should just pore slick 50 on it. Is that true, or would I have to get a new motor?

Answer
Sometimes people mistake a bad rocker for a rod knock. I think it's probably a little late for slick 50 (or any other additive) and I would start looking for another motor or car, just incase (does your car insurance come with free towing? Mine does, and it came in handy when my new tranny blew up with no warning!) I wouldn't bet it lasts as long (depends how you drive. I had a Rambler do that for 6 years, then blew up, and a Chev that did it 5 minutes, so your mileage may vary!)
