Audio Systems: Replacement Remote, sherwood receivers, dollar tree stores

Question
Hello, This may be difficult for you to find out because there isn't much info on the Internet about this but would the Sherwood RC-107 remote work as a replacement for the RC-101 remote I ask this because my RC-101 remote broke and the two look very similar but I can't find the RC-101 available on the web. I have the RX-4105 receiver which uses the RC-101 but there is another receiver out there that looks very similar called the RX-4109 and it uses the RC-107 remote so I wondered if I could get that remote to replace my broken RC-101.Thanks!

Answer
looking alike or even identical isn't what's important when looking for remote; what is important is the code used inside the remote.  Remotes always go by the model number of the product it is working for - usually, anyway.  Exception is a few remote controller for toys and planes and universal programmable remotes such as the Sherwood and Marantz units.

There is a good probability that similar Sherwood receivers use the same code even though the remotes may be slightly dissimilar.  I compared the layout of each control for the 4105 and the 4109 and they seem to be virtually identical.  Thus, I would assume they are using the same coding.

If you go to remotes.com and do some searching around you will find the Marantz, Denon and Sherwood may use the same remote. However, the replacements from remotes.com are quite expensive compared with universal remotes that you can find in places like Walmart.  Another possibility is the Dollar Tree remote.  The latest ones at Dollar Tree stores are very comprehensive and operate nearly everything in site!  Might be you should try one and see if it does the job.  Only cost you $1.00. (It has a learning feature if the list that comes with it doesn't cover your make.)

Hope this helps.
