Audio Systems: replacement of car stereo on 2005 silverado truck with steering controls, factory wiring harness, crutchfield

Question
i am trying to replace my car stereo on my truck and retain my steering wheel controls as volume, station search, pre program settings, am,fm,fm1, my on starr switch mutes the radio as well. i like to install a better sterio and keep my steering controls. i took my car to fry's electronics and they messed everything up. i bought the harness, steering wheel harness, face plate kit, etc.but returned them after the failed instalation.is this a job that could be done by the do it yourselfer all i think i need is the harnesse's and wire connection schematic. please advise, thanks

Answer
Certainly.
All you need are three things and some basic hand tool knowledge and general safety considerations.
1) An aftermarket headunit that has a wireless remote control included.
2) An interface that uses that remote to trigger the steering control inputs.

3) A factory wiring harness adapter.
