Audio Systems: Car Stereo Error Code, simple as dirt, servo motor

Question
QUESTION: I get an error code #4 when i try to play a cd in my car stereo
vrcd400-sdu what is wrong with it and what can i do to fix it?
What is Error #4

ANSWER: First, try the reset button. Sometimes it is an error of the display panel only and the reset button will correct for that. The reset button is on the front panel, bottom left area.

I could not find a diagnostic for error 4.  This unit is from Roadmaster and they don't provide good support for documentation.

Since the cd is not playing the error code 4 is likely to do with jammed mechanism, tracking or servo motor problems.  As a general rule these kinds of errors involve expensive repairs - often more costly than can be justified based on the original cost of the unit.  But, since I don't know what is wrong it is only a guess at this point.  It could, for example, be something as simple as dirt or condensation on the optical pickup head or something as difficult as requiring an entire new optical pickup system. You could try cleaning off the lens - just use a q-tip to flick the lens clean.

Maybe this will help.

QUESTION: Just wanted to thank you for all your help.. I have tried resetting and that does not help, and dont think i will be able to use a q-tip to clean the head the opening is very slim.. but thank you for your help...

Answer
CD players are really complicated devices and there are so many possible causes.  And, the bad news is that often the replacement cost is less than the cost of repair!  That's a sad, but true, commentary.

Sorry I couldn't solve your problem.   Hope it comes up soon.
