Audio Systems: receiver/cable box, motorola dvr cable box, pioneer receiver

Question
QUESTION: I have had my pioneer receiver and Motorola dvr cable box hooked up to my sharp TV for over a year with no problems. All of a sudden now when I turn on my system the cable box will flash "du1"  for a few seconds. I called the cable company (Cox) and they tried resetting the box but I still have the same problem.
I have the cable box going to the receiver then from receiver to TV using hdmi cables. Any idea what the problem is?

ANSWER: Do they say what the "du1" code means?
It's definitely not a cabling issue, unless one of the connectors has been broken. If that's the case, I recommend either bluejeanscable.com or tartancable.com for replacements. Buying cables retail means you're paying up to 800% markups.

QUESTION: cable company (cox) claims tv is probably not receiving updates from dvr cable box. they state that du1 is really dvi. hopes this helps. like i stated everything worked fine until a couple of days ago.

Answer
If the cabling is not physically broken, you can count those out of the equation.

Have you tried taking the receiver out of the chain (cable box directly into the TV). If it does, you'll want your receiver looked at.

Depending on what kind of firmware updates that could be going on with all of the devices involved, there's a slim chance that devices may stop digitally "hand shaking" with each other. I've come across this a few times, where two devices - while functioning individually - will not work together. This is a rare problem, seems to be totally random as far as brands and devices are concerned, and there's no good explanation as to why.

I'd contact sharp for any firmware updates that may be available. You might want to see if another cable box can be obtained as well.
