Audio Systems: Fisher Equalizer, audio equalizer, yamaha receiver

Question
QUESTION: I got a Fisher standard audio equalizer with 10 bands on each side and hooked it up
with the four jacks into the tape jacks on my yamaha receiver. WHen I hook up a
cd player to the cd jack on the receiver, you cannot equalize the sound. The eq
has 4 jacks to hook up to a tape player so when I do that, only the left side
sliders equalize the sound and not the right. No matter which way I switch the cables,
only ther left side of the eq equalizes the sound and the right is monotone and
does nothing. I looked in the eq for a fuse, but there is no fuse. Why does the right
side not work? The sound is really good, but only the left side controls both speakers.
Please help any way you can, I don't know what else to do.
Thanks, Kevin

ANSWER: sorry for the delay in getting to you.

First of all, before I can go any further, what is the model # of the receiver, as well as the model # of the EQ?

QUESTION: Wayne, I was simply relying to the question you asked about what brand receiver and eq I had.
Below is the original question and after that you will see where you asked about the brands.
You said you could not answer the question until you had further info.

QUESTION: okay, the amp is a Kenwood VR-6060 Audio Video Surround Receiver
and the EQ is a FISHER STUDIO STANDARD 10 BAND STEREO EQ-890

Answer
Hmmm I thought I had replied to this...

What you have is a surround receiver. Many of these EQs were built with a stereo receiver that had preamp outputs and power amp inputs in mind. You're receiver does not have this, so you'll have to choose which input you want to have the EQ on.

If the EQ is hooked up to the tape in/out, that would be the only channel of the amp that would possibly be affected (it will not work for the CD channel on the receiver - it's not in the signal path).

Try to test it like this - go CD player > EQ > receiver
Now try the different sides of the EQ to see if the left is still the only one working. If so, try switching from the EQ >receiver the left & right plugs. If the right side is the only one working, you'll need to take the EQ in for service.
