Audio Systems: Blu Ray Player Audio Issue, sony bluray, dolby dts

Question
Hi! I recently purchased a Sony BluRay Player and have come across an issue. For whatever reason it plays the audio of the blu rays in the menus and in extras; but not the actual movie itself. My current theory is that my reciever doesn't support the HD type of audio it's encoded in (which would explain why the menus and extras work because they're likely coded in something more basic).

I tried several blu rays and the commonality I found was that 'Dolby DTS-HD' was on the movies that wouldn't work, while just 'Dolby Digital' was on the ones that do work. (for reference, Inception won't work but Wrestlemania 27 does)

Is it possible my reciever is just too old? It's a Pioneer VSX D557.

Thanks for any help! :)

Answer
This model goes back to 2001 model year.  It supports Dolby 5.1 only according to the manuals.

Therefore, it is likely the discs not decoding are not supported by this old receiver. However, many discs have more than one audio track and you should be able to switch over to regular stereo or plain Dolby should you not?

Let me know if you need more.
