Audio Systems: maching sub with right amp, ohm load, pioneer ts

Question
I have 1 pioneer TS-W2502D4 3000w 800w nom. DVC sub and was wondering what the best amp to use would be.

Answer
Your version is a D4 or has the dual 4 ohm coils.

If you wire the coils in parallel you will need an amplifier that can drive a 2 ohm load.  If you wire them in series most any amp will drive them as that gives an 8 ohm load.

This model is quite low sensitivity, being 89 db, so you will need lots of power.

Don't be fooled by the 3000w music rating - it is a fictitious marketing number and is not meaningful in terms of reality.  The 800w is even some exaggeration as to the real power it can handle safely - in my opinion.

It is a narrow band pass acoustic design so you will need a midrange that goes down to 120 - 150 Hz in order to crossover good.

The box you mount this speaker in will be very important.  Be sure to follow the manufacturers recommendations for cubic size and port.....

Best wishes.
