Audio Systems: karaoke player feedback, electronic mixer, ground currents

Question
I am a karaoke dj and I use two standard dvd players hooked into a audio/video splitter, and then connected to the cd/tape in on my behringer amp.  I get a buzzing noise out of one of my players no matter how I hook it up. Even if I leave one turned off I still get the noise. I had the same noise back before I added a splitter then I had one as a master and the other as a slave. I purchased a new player replaced a jbl with a mixsonic because it reads all formats. I still have the same problem. fortunately once the music starts it drowns out the sound. No one notices it but me and it drives me nuts! any suggestions?

thank you - felicia

Answer
It is hard for me to know the exact setup you have with such a brief description and no model numbers.....

However, my first guess is that you have a ground loop.  A ground loop will produce a hum and in some cases when the ground currents are from the power supply of one of the devices a buzz.  Try disconnecting one the output of the unit causing the buzz and also of the ground connections into the splitter or even lift the ground on one of the power cords and tip its polarity over.  You will probably have to experiment.

I don't know what kind of splitter you are using but is seems like you are using a passive device which I don't like as they introduce ground loops all the time.  Try using a preamp or small electronic mixer device.  They aren't expensive.

Let me know more if you can't solve it but give me make/model of all the gadgets and more detail of how you are hooked up so I can know the scope of your system.
