Audio Systems: Altima CD Reading Error, cue tip, laser alignment

Question
Hi Cleggsan,  My 2007 Altima CD player just started to have reading errors with every CD I've put in.  Is this something that can be repaired (i.e. laser alignment or other) or do I need to replace the entire unit?  Thanks and looking forward to your response.

Answer
Yes, it could be a tracking adjustment, focus control, etc. and a good shop with the right instruments and test disc can do those adjustments; however, the cost of doing may be nearly as much as a new head unit.

And, if the laser diode is getting weak or if there are damage to the surface of the lens it would require replacement of the optical pickup system - which is also very expensive.

It is a question of economics; if the repair can be done cheaply is one thing, but the price of a player is often not much more or even less, depending on the replacement unit you have in mind.

PS: Don't forget to clean the lens with a cotton cue-tip to see if that helps.
