Audio Systems: Which speakers?, small subwoofer, jvc ks

Question
Hi,
I have a jvc kd-r616 head unit and an older jvc ks-ax6700 two channel amp. Im wondering what sort of speakers to put with the set-up? Its going into a ford falcon AU ute which I'm pretty sure has 5x7 speakers as stock standard. Should I go for an aftermarket pair of 5x7's? Or do a little work and try to put 6" component speakers in? Will the amp be satisfactory for my application?

Answer
The amp should be fine if you need only two channels. If you want more flexibility, I would think about getting a 4 or 5 channel amp with built in crossovers.
If the factory speakers are more than a few years old, new speakers should provide the most notable difference when upgrading. I would suggest auditioning a pair of Polks.
If you want better-than-5x7" bass, add a small subwoofer rather than trying to bottom out a good midrange/midbass (even a 6").
I think what you have can work pretty well if it is setup properly.. it really depends on your expectations.
