Question
Hi, i'm having a problem with my sony bdve500w surround amplifier. The problem is when i turn on the surround amplifier it says that the headphones are in the jack when there are none in it.I get sound in the headphones if i plug them in, however as it locks out the speakers when you plug headphones in, the same is happening when there are no headphones plugged in but it is still saying the headphones are plugged in, and the speakers are of course locked out preventing me from any sound. So the only way i get any sound out of the speakers is when i turn off my surround amplifier;and that sound only comes from the center/left/right/sub-woofer speakers. Is there some way to fix the surround amplifier to disregard the headphone jack?

Answer
When you plug in the headphones, try wiggling the jack around a little bit.  It is possible the contacts on the inside of the jack are not releasing.  The wiggling or jiggling may correct it, at least temporarily.

The long term fix is probably repairing or replacing the jack.  There are contacts that are opened up when the plug is inserted into the jack.  These contacts are probably not operating properly.
