Audio Systems: Ford Explorer, own unique design, wiring harnesses

I have a Ford explorer 1997 XLT i want to replace my sound system but dont know what to get so i was wondering if you could tell me the size of speakers i need and what would be the best speakers for my car since it is kinda big dont really know if that has anything to do with it. thank you a bunch

Yes, it is a very particular matter for speaker size, diameter and depth, because each automobile has its own unique design.

The best place for getting this is crutchfield.com  as they have the most exhaustive database of such facts and dimensions.  Go to their site and work through the "outfit my car" sequence.  It will ask you simple questions about the year, make, model, options, etc. and give you a listing of products that will fit its dimensions, etc.   It is a powerful tool.  If you purchase from Crutchfield they will provide wiring harnesses and installation instructions, but you can decide where to purchase your system components as you please.
