Audio Systems: Sound from Blu ray, onkyo tx ds595, digital audio cable

Question
QUESTION: If I have a Blu ray movie playing, the sound from my CD player won't play, it play the sound from the movie, even thou the mode is set to CD.  The CD player works fine as long as the Blu ray is not on.  I want to have a blu ray playing for parties but have my CD music playing not the sound from the movie.  The TV is set to Mute.  I can set the receiver to DVD, or CD and still only get the sound from the Blu ray.  Any suggestions?
Thanks.

QUESTION: I have an Onkyo TX-DS595 Surround Receiver, An LG Blu Ray player.  Everything is connected with HDMI cables.  My old DVD player was no problem,  I could play a DVD and listen to a CD.  The input on the RCVR just had to be set on CD.  Now if a Blu ray is playing, that's the only sound I get out it.  It's since it all went HI Def.

Answer
Run the BluRay directly to the TV with the HDMI cable. Use a digital audio cable from the BluRay to the receiver. This way, the HDMI communications will only be with the TV, and you'll still be able to get full surround sound with the digital audio cable. Also, the BluRay audio shouldn't take over your receiver.

I understand your issues...My Samsung BluRay & TV "talk" to each other in ways that can be annoying, like auto switching video inputs to the TV, etc...
The HDMI standard, while a good concept, was executed horribly and designed even worse.
